The Problems Associated with Cleft Lip are Aesthetic and Functional

Siniša Franjić

Abstract: The challenges linked to cleft lip and palate encompass both aesthetic and functional issues, with the potential for severe health risks. While cleft palate is more prevalent, cleft lip can also pose concerns beyond just cosmetic appearance. This condition arises during the stage when the embryo forms, resulting in these anatomical features remaining distinct from one another.

Musculoskeletal Disorders: Study on CNG Car Drivers

S.M. Dabir Hossain, Umme Saika Nila, Md Monoarul Haque*

Abstract: Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are one of the common occupational disorders among CNG drivers but the prevalence rates are not well documented in our country. The objective of this study was to evaluate MSDs in terms of perception of pain experienced by the CNG drivers. A cross sectional carried among the 104 participants with MSDs was face to face interviewed for identifying associated risk factors and status of MSDs. The prevalence of musculoskeletal disorder among CNG drivers was 75.96%. One third participants are driving more than 200 km in everyday without use of back support more than 10 hours. More than half of participants had break and clutch are not in proper position. Statically association was found between clutch in proper position and musculoskeletal disorders. Among 104 participants; 51.0% break used in proper position followed by 49.0% was not break proper position. Statically association was found between break and exalter in proper position and musculoskeletal disorders. It is concluded that MSK disorders are more common among the CNG drivers and LBP are was the most common affected area. Musculoskeletal pain was related to the demography of the participants. More research is needed on musculoskeletal disorders among the CNG drivers with an emphasis on a larger sample size. Early identification and treatment will lead to the best possible outcome. Conservative management is the gold standard including physiotherapy, stabilization belts, nerve stimulation, pharmacological treatment, acupuncture, massage, relaxation, and yoga.

Osteoarthritis among Rickshaw Pullers: An Epidemiological Observational Study

Umme Saika Nila*

Abstract: Osteoarthritis (Har Khoy) is a common incident in recent period in our country. Literature suggests that studies on OA in people who have joint symptoms may be more clinically relevant, because not all persons who have radiographic OA have clinical disease, and not all persons who have joint symptoms demonstrate radiographic OA. Rickshaw puller are poor people and almost all of them depend on pharmacy man/quack for medical remedy. This study was conducted to find out number of rickshaw puller are suffering from osteoarthritis. Study design was cross sectional in nature and total sample was 79. History taking, physical examination and radiological findings were considered to diagnose OA. About half of the respondents belonged to 31-49 years age group followed by 30% from 50-70 years and 19.60% from ≤30 years. About 67% were illiterate and 28% did primary education. Most of the rickshaw puller (62.40%) earned monthly 8000-10000 BDT followed by 5001-7999 BDT earned by 33.40%. Among 79 cases osteoarthritis was found among 9% rickshaw puller. So prevalence of OA among rickshaw puller was remarkable.

An Integrated Deep Learning Framework for Automated Leg Bone Fracture Detection and Clinical Decision Support Using X-Ray Images

E. Venkatesan, Guest Lecturer, V. Thangavel, Head-LIRC*

Abstract: Leg bone fractures require accurate and timely diagnosis to determine appropriate treatment. This research proposes an Artificial Intelligence (AI) based deep learning framework for automated leg bone fracture detection and severity assessment using X-ray images. Initially, a Median Filter is applied as a preprocessing technique to remove noise and enhance fracture-related structures. The preprocessed images are then analyzed using Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) algorithms for feature extraction, fracture detection, and classification. The proposed system identifies fractured and non-fractured bones and assesses the severity or stage of the fracture. Based on the detected fracture characteristics, the system provides computer-aided treatment recommendations, including conservative management, supportive medication, or surgical intervention when clinically appropriate. The proposed framework aims to improve fracture detection accuracy, reduce diagnostic time, and support healthcare professionals in making effective treatment decisions.

A Successful Transplantation Allows the Possibility of Returning to Everyday Life and Work Activities

Siniša Franjić

Abstract: Organ transplantation involves replacing a dysfunctional organ with a healthy one through surgery. Nowadays, this practice is widely accepted and, in some cases, is the sole therapeutic option for treating both acute and chronic organ failure. A successful transplant not only gives individuals a chance at a new life but also enhances their quality of life and opens the door for resuming daily activities and work. The success of this procedure hinges on various factors. Medical professionals play a critical role in providing the necessary care, but full recovery involves more than just medical attention. An individual’s willingness to cooperate, alter lifestyle choices, and adapt to new routines is vital for post-transplant recovery. Family support and involvement also significantly impact this process.
