Abstract

Rectal prolapse refers to the displacement of the large intestine's tissue, specifically the last section of the digestive system, outside the body via the anal opening. In adults, the development of rectal prolapse occurs due to the deterioration of the anal sphincter or the supportive ligaments that maintain the rectum in its proper location. Such deterioration can result from aging, medical conditions, or infrequently, surgical damage. Increased intestinal contractions, prolonged use of laxatives, or acute diarrhea can also lead to prolapse.
